THURSDAY 4th MAY

SKEOGH FLUTE BAND, DROMORE, Co DOWN

Skeogh Melody Flute Band broke with tradition for their millenium parade by holding it on a Thursday night. It was a gamble on their part, and paid off well, with the top bands from County Armagh and County Down in attendance. Once again a warm summer evening and a good crowd made for an enjoyable parade.

MOURNE YOUNG DEFENDERS FLUTE BAND, KILKEEL

The parade followed its traditional route through Dromore, free from obstruction or objections from Republicans and the R.U.C. This was despite the fact that Republican groups have tried to cause disorder over the last few years.

FRIDAY 5th MAY

RED HAND DEFENDERS FLUTE BAND, NEWTOWNSTEWART

The Red Hand Defenders annual parade on Friday night was well attended and supported, despite the fact that it was the weekend of the Northwest 200. An event that has traditionally drawn a large number of Loyalists. Despite this 21 bands turned up in Newtownstewart, and a large crowd watched the parade in the town centre. There was however a very provocative R.U.C. presence in the predominately Protestant town, the bandsmen showing great restraint once again. It should also be mentioned that on the way home from this parade a number of bands were ambushed by nationalists, read more here.
